“WHERE DREAMS BECOME REALITY
Dorafalù is the atelier where the sketches of haute couture designers first become models,
then masterpiece dresses. Thanks to the passion of the founder Luisa Bernascone.
Luisa Bernascone is a woman with free and unstoppable creativity, with the dream of giving her contribution to
international fashion. But she is also a professional with many years of experience as a pattern maker within
prestigious Italian ready-to-wear brands, who in 2004 decided to take over a small tailoring workshop near
Milan. And from there, as the founder tells here, the adventure of Dorafalù begins.
Who is Dorafalù?
«She is the cylinder from which the magic of haute couture emerges. In our workshop, which today has 40 professionals
including seamstresses, pattern makers and sample makers, we translate the dreams of haute couture designers into reality, creating unique garments
starting from a drawing».
What do you like most about your job?
«I am happy when I receive a sketch and start planning how to make it. I imagine the final effect, the construction,
the movement it will have on the catwalk, I find solutions for every difficulty that may arise. That’s where creativity
comes into play, the ability to transform a drawing into a model, but also the sensitivity to interact
with the designer to satisfy even the highest expectations».
What is the biggest challenge?
«Really impossible ones happen: sometimes it’s as if we were challenging the force of gravity through invisible constructions,
designed to create surface and chiaroscuro effects, which support very light fabrics. For me, clothes are
sculptures in motion».
What do you see in the future of Dorafalù?
«We have grown a lot in 20 years and I also like teaching the trade to young people who are starting a career
within my company. My desire to create never stops, in balance between the Italian tailoring tradition
and new technologies, which are of great help in simplifying some operations and allow me to have
more time to dream and create new models”.”
